The New Carlisle Fire Department was established in June of 1880,
by the Town of New Carlisle
according to Ordinance 28. Our original name was
New Carlisle Hose Company 1. As the years went by our name was changed to New Carlisle Fire Department. We have kept
this name alive by putting the hose company emblem on our trucks and creating shirts with the New Carlisle Fire Department
logo. History and tradition are very important to us. We have gone from buckets and hose carts to our latest addition, a 105
ft. ladder platform. Through the years one thing has never changed, the dedication of or volunteers to help their neighbors.
We are staffed with 30 Volunteer Firefighters and 5 Assisstant
Firefighters. Our department has a protection area of 69 square miles. In this area we cover a variety of different environments
such as a 500 acre lake, numerous farms, a large industrial park with steel mills and corrugated paper factories, a
150 year old town, 10 miles of the Indiana Toll Road, and Olive and Prairie
View Elementary schools. Our area encompasses Olive
township and New Carlisle in St. Joseph county and Hudson
township in LaPorte county in northern Indiana. We respond to Fire and EMS
runs at the level of basic life support non transport.
Our department has always been known to stay on the cutting edge
of training from EMS to Fire. Presently we are working on the development of the TRUCK company teams
to go along with our latest platform. We have worked hard to become a skilled FAST team that is available to be deployed any
where in our two county mutual aid area if a firefighter gets lost or hurt in a fire. Our dedicated team of firefighters is
always up for new challenges as our communities need change.
